PSA App vs Binder AI: What Each One Does Before You Submit

Facts checked October 18, 2026 · By the Binder AI Team (we make Binder AI)

The PSA app does not offer a grade estimate on any official page we checked. It scans and identifies cards, shows price estimates and sales history, tracks your collection and lets you build and track PSA submissions, while Binder AI estimates centering, corners, edges and surface from photos so you can decide which cards are worth that submission. Most collectors who grade with PSA can use both, screening with Binder AI and submitting through the PSA app. We make Binder AI, and every PSA detail below comes from PSA's own website and app listings, checked as of October 2026.

Short answer

Use the PSA app to identify cards, see what they sell for, organize graded and ungraded cards, and send cards to PSA. It is free. Use Binder AI before that step, to get an estimated grade with subgrades and condition notes so you only pay PSA's fee on cards with a real shot at a high grade. Binder AI costs $1.99/week, $3.99/month or $24.99/year on the website. With PSA's cheapest listed service at $59.99 per card, skipping even one weak card pays for a year of screening.

What the PSA app does

PSA describes its app as a way to "Identify, track, grade, organize, and sell" cards. Based on psacard.com/apps and the store listings as of October 2026, it covers five jobs.

  • Scan and identify. Point the camera at a sports or trading card to identify it and pull pricing and market data. PSA lists sports cards, Pokémon, One Piece, Magic: The Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! among supported categories.
  • Values for graded and ungraded cards. You can add raw cards next to slabs and see price estimates, sales history and value over time. PSA notes that all values are estimates.
  • Collection and portfolio. The 8.x versions were rebuilt around your collection, with portfolio value tracking, top movers, folders, filters and public share links. Slab Studio makes cleaner images for sharing.
  • Submission. You can build PSA submissions in the app, track each order and see the grade reveal. On PSA's assisted submission flow, PSA estimates each card's graded value and recommends a service level, which you can accept or change.
  • Selling and storage. Eligible cards can go to the PSA Vault and be listed on eBay as an auction or Buy It Now from a grading order or the vault, and you can accept eligible zero-fee PSA Partner Offers.

The App Store listing shows no in-app purchases. The Google Play listing shows in-app items from $2.49 to $59.99, and PSA does not say on the listing what those items are.

What it does not do

We did not find a condition estimate or pre-grade feature on PSA's app page, its App Store listing or its Google Play listing as of October 2026. The app tells you what a card is and what copies have sold for at each grade. It does not tell you whether your copy is likely to come back a 10, a 9 or a 7.

That matters because the value estimate in assisted submission is about service level, not condition. PSA can tell you a card might be worth enough to need a higher tier, but you still find out the grade only after paying and waiting. This is not a flaw in the PSA app. It makes sense that a grading company would not predict its own grades.

What Binder AI adds

Binder AI fills the gap before submission. You photograph the front and back, choose the PSA scale (or BGS or TAG), and get an overall estimate with four subgrades and written notes on what it found on each part of the card. The centering subgrade comes with a manual centering tool if you want to check border ratios yourself.

Next to the estimate, Binder AI shows eBay sold prices and a graded value table, so you can compare the raw price with what a PSA 9 or 10 sells for. Our guide on how to pre-grade cards explains what to look for by hand, which is still worth doing on any card you plan to send.

Binder AI's results are estimates, not PSA grades. Use them to rank and cull cards, not to predict a slab.

Using both in a submission workflow

  1. Sort. Pull every card you are thinking about grading. Put cards with visible creases, dents or heavy whitening aside straight away.
  2. Screen with Binder AI. Grade the rest on the PSA scale in one sitting. Note the overall estimate and the weakest subgrade for each card.
  3. Check the money. For each card that looks like a 9 or 10, compare the raw price with graded sold prices. The is my card worth grading calculator does this with fees included.
  4. Submit in the PSA app. Scan the cards that passed, review PSA's service level recommendations and check out. Our guide to submitting cards to PSA covers packaging and shipping.
  5. Track and compare. Follow the order in the PSA app. When grades come back, compare them with Binder AI's estimates so you learn how it reads your photos.

Cost math with PSA Standard at $59.99

PSA's trading card pricing page as of October 2026 lists these service levels, and it says Value services are temporarily paused.

PSA servicePrice per cardMax insured valueEstimated turnaround
Standard$59.99$1,00090 to 100 business days
Priority$79.99$1,50070 to 80 business days
Express$199$2,50020 to 30 business days
Super Express$349$5,00010 to 15 business days
Premier$599$10,0007 to 10 business days

Say you have 20 cards you are thinking about sending at Standard. That is $1,199.80 in grading fees before shipping. If screening shows that 6 of them have a centering or corner problem that makes a 9 or 10 unlikely, and you hold those back, you save $359.94. A month of Binder AI on the web is $3.99, and a year is $24.99.

The savings only hold if the cards you skip really would have graded low, which no app can promise. The safer way to read the math is that one avoided Standard submission ($59.99) costs more than two years of Binder AI's yearly web plan. Run your own numbers with the grading cost calculator, and see our PSA grading cost guide for shipping and the other costs that add up on a submission.

About Binder AI

Binder AI is an AI pre-grading app for iOS, Android and the web. You photograph the front and back of a card and get an overall grade estimate on the PSA, BGS or TAG scale you choose, with centering, corners, edges and surface subgrades and written condition notes. It also has a manual centering tool, identifies the card, shows eBay sold prices, price history and a graded value table, and sorts cards into binders by game or sport with sharing and wishlists. It supports Pokémon, Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Digimon, Lorcana, baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer, WWE and non-sport cards. The app is free to download, and grading is included in a subscription: $1.99/week, $3.99/month or $24.99/year on the website ($4.99/month or $29.99/year in the App Store).

Frequently asked questions

Does the PSA app grade cards?

Not by itself. The PSA app lets you build a submission and send cards to PSA, whose graders assign the official grade. We did not find an AI grade estimate or pre-grade feature on PSA's official app pages as of October 2026.

Is the PSA app free?

Yes, it is free to download. The App Store listing shows no in-app purchases, while the Google Play listing shows in-app items from $2.49 to $59.99. Grading itself is paid per card, starting at $59.99 for Standard while PSA's Value services are paused.

Can the PSA app scan ungraded cards?

Yes. PSA says you can scan sports and trading cards to identify them, and add ungraded cards to your collection with price estimates and sales history. It shows values, not a condition estimate.

Should I pre-grade cards before sending them to PSA?

It is worth it if you send more than a few cards. A pre-grade from an app like Binder AI, plus your own check under good light, helps you skip cards with obvious centering or corner problems. Remember that any app's result is an estimate, not a PSA grade.

Can I use Binder AI and the PSA app together?

Yes, and that is how many collectors use them. Screen cards with Binder AI on the PSA scale, then submit the ones that pass through the PSA app and track the order there.
