Short answer
Pick Dragon Shield's scanner if you build Pokémon decks, trade at league nights, want TCGplayer and Cardmarket prices side by side, or scan cards in other languages. It has been on the App Store since 2017 and has separate scanner apps for Magic: The Gathering, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Flesh and Blood. Pick Binder AI if you want an estimate of what a card might grade before paying a grading fee, or if you collect sports cards as well as TCGs. Neither app lists the other's main feature, so many collectors could use both.

Dragon Shield's scanner is rated 4.6 from about 13,800 ratings on the US App Store, and its latest version (8.1.0) came out on September 14, 2026. Its App Store in-app purchase list shows two Premium Yearly prices ($39.99 and $29.99) and does not explain what the Common, Uncommon, Rare and Mythic tiers include, so check the in-app screen before you buy. On Google Play the same app is published under the name Creative Collectible Company, LLC, and dragonshield.com links to that developer page.
How each app works
Dragon Shield's scanner is a player's and trader's tool. You scan a card in any language, see daily prices from TCGplayer and Cardmarket and a 30-day price chart, and file it into folders. From there you can build decks, compare both sides of a trade to see who comes out ahead, share wishlists and trade lists with friends, and get a weekly email about your collection's value. A shop inside the app was updated with filters in its latest release.
Binder AI starts from a photo of the front and a photo of the back. You choose the PSA, BGS or TAG scale and get an overall grade estimate with centering, corners, edges and surface subgrades and written notes. It identifies the card and shows eBay sold prices, price history and a graded value table, so you can see what a high grade might be worth. For a hand check of centering, use the manual tool in the app or the free card centering calculator.

Try both
These apps do different jobs, so the simplest test is to use each for what it is built for.
- Scan ten cards from your binder into Dragon Shield's app and see whether its folders, prices and deck builder fit how you play.
- Pick three to five of your best raw cards and photograph them front and back on a dark flat surface with soft light and no glare.
- Run those photos through Binder AI on the PSA or BGS scale and note the subgrades.
- Compare Binder AI's graded value table with the raw prices Dragon Shield shows to see whether grading looks worth it.
Both apps are free to download. Binder AI's plans are on the pricing page.
