Binder AI vs Dex: Which Should a Pokémon Collector Use?

Facts checked October 28, 2026 · By the Binder AI Team (we make Binder AI)

Dex is the better fit if you collect Pokémon cards and want a deep, mostly free collection tracker with master set tools, binder views, friends and decks. Binder AI is the better fit if you want an AI grade estimate on the PSA, BGS or TAG scale, eBay sold prices and binders for more than one game or sport. Both run on iPhone, Android and the web. We make Binder AI, so every Dex detail below comes from its App Store and Google Play listings and dextcg.com, checked as of October 2026.

Dex, MyDex and HoloDex are three different apps

Several card apps use "Dex" in their name. This page is about Dex - for TCG Collectors, made by Pedro Carrasco and published under the Dexbit name, with its website at dextcg.com. It has been on the App Store since 2021.

  • MyDex TCG Card Scanner is a different app by Alberto Moral, with its website at pokedex.trading. See Binder AI vs MyDex.
  • HoloDex - TCG Scan & Collect is a different app again, listed on Google Play by a developer named Mavelli. See Binder AI vs HoloDex.

If a store page does not show Pedro Carrasco or Dexbit, it is not the Dex compared here.

Short answer

Pick Dex if you are a Pokémon collector who wants to track every set, variant and Pokémon, mostly for free. Its listing is rated 4.8 from about 14,200 ratings on the US App Store as of October 2026. Pick Binder AI if you want to know roughly what grade a card might get before you submit it, what graded copies sell for, or if you collect other games and sports too. Dex does not list grade estimates.

The latest App Store version as of October 2026 is 26.1.2, released October 21, 2026, and its release notes say Dex+ now allows up to 50 friends, while the dextcg.com pricing table still says 25.

How each app works

Dex is a collection tracker first. Every printing, including first editions, shadowless cards and stamped promos, is its own card with its own prices. You mark what you own, organize cards into folders and a binder view, fill in a Pokédex where each Pokémon lights up as you collect its cards, and browse Insights on value and rarity breakdowns. Its latest update added "cameos", which tracks every card a Pokémon appears on in the background art. With Dex+, you can point the camera at a card and Dex names it, variant included, or scan a stack straight into a folder.

Binder AI starts from a photo of the front and a photo of the back. It identifies the card, gives an overall grade estimate on the PSA, BGS or TAG scale you choose, with centering, corners, edges and surface subgrades and written notes, and shows eBay sold prices, price history and a graded value table. Cards go into binders by game or sport, with sharing and wishlists.

Where Dex is stronger

  • A generous free plan. The free tier covers every card and expansion, unlimited owned cards and prices from all its marketplaces.
  • Master set and variant tracking. Each variant is its own card, and Insights show your progress and value per set.
  • Japanese and Simplified Chinese sets. Dex lists them alongside international sets.
  • More price sources. It shows TCGplayer, Cardmarket, CardTrader and eBay prices side by side.
  • Friends, trading and decks. Trade Finder surfaces cards you and a friend are each missing, and the deck builder has a hand simulator and draw odds.
  • A lifetime option. Dex+ Lifetime is $109.00 in the App Store. Binder AI has no lifetime plan.

Where Binder AI is stronger

  • Grade estimates. Binder AI gives a PSA, BGS or TAG estimate with subgrades and notes. Dex does not list grading.
  • Graded values. The graded value table and eBay sold prices help you decide if a card is worth the grading fee. The is my card worth grading calculator does the math.
  • Scanning included with grading. Card identification is part of every Binder AI scan. In Dex, the camera scanner is a Dex+ feature.
  • Other games and sports. Binder AI covers MTG, Yu-Gi-Oh!, One Piece, Digimon, Lorcana and the major sports as well as Pokémon. Dex is Pokémon only.

Which to pick by collector type

  • Pokémon master set collector. Dex.
  • Japanese or Chinese Pokémon collector. Dex lists those sets.
  • Player who also builds decks. Dex, for its deck tools.
  • Collector deciding what to send for grading. Binder AI.
  • Sports card or multi-game collector. Binder AI.
  • Pokémon collector who also grades. Use Dex to track the collection and Binder AI on the cards you are thinking of submitting.

Try both on the same cards

  1. Start on Dex's free plan and add one set you are working on. See if the variant list and prices match how you collect.
  2. Pick two or three of your best raw cards from that set.
  3. Photograph each one, front and back, on a dark flat surface with soft light and no glare, and run them through Binder AI.
  4. Compare the raw prices in Dex with the graded sold prices and grade estimate in Binder AI before you pay for grading.

Binder AI's $1.99 weekly web plan keeps the test cheap. See the pricing page.
