What a scan settles
- Exact card: player, set, year and parallel. A Prizm Silver and a base Prizm are very different assets.
- Condition reality: an AI grade estimate with centering, corners, edges and surface subgrades. Chrome stock scratches easily and shows centering drift, and "pack fresh" is not a grade.
- Value: recent eBay sold prices, price history and a graded value table for that card, tracked in your binder.
The PSA 10 spread decides everything
Modern NBA rookie premiums concentrate in gem mint. Before submitting, you want two numbers side by side: the estimated grade from your scan, and the graded-vs-raw price spread. When the estimate says 9 and the 9 sells for about the same as raw, you just saved a submission fee. When it says 10 candidate on a popular rookie, that's the card to consider sending. The grading ROI calculator turns this into expected profit.
Vintage basketball counts too
Pre-1990s basketball (Topps, Fleer) has real vintage demand and more forgiving grading math, since graded mid-grade copies of stars can hold value. Scan them like everything else.
